I’m officially over it. Over this winter, of the numbing cold, lack of sun…all of it. One of our friends told us that this is the longest record of snow on the ground in the history of Buffalo. Even those who have lived here for all of their lives have said how tired they are of this. And the worst part?! I haven’t even gotten a chance to go skiing or sledding! Yes, these are the concerns of the day. When can I hit a ski trail?!

So in the spirit of Valentine’s Day and to keep from staying under the down comforter all day, I’m dressing in light colors and raiding my collection of hearts. There is just something about a heart print that lifts my spirits. And while I’m waiting for my order of Vitamin D to come in, I will take all the spirit lifting I can get.

Much love from the land of snow,

Mel

Love is in the air this week…and apparently on my elbows as well. 😉 I saw this sweater a few weeks ago and just fell in love. Due to the storms that we have been having, its shipping was constantly delayed, so I wasn’t sure that I would receive it in time for Valentine’s Day weekend and like any good fashionista, had to come up with a back up outfit (seen here).

The fashion love god’s were with me though and the sweater finally arrived. So excited! The stripes and really the elbow patches, just make me smile. It only helps the love affair that the sweater is pretty comfy too.

I’ll most likely be pairing it with jeans for Saturday, but I love this outfit for the next date night. Or the next time not wearing snow boots is acceptable.

Hope everyone is having a lovely day!

Much love,

Mel

Got Interview? Have Outfit.

Although I was excited to embark upon my new business of styling, the winter months have certainly made it harder for me to get everything up and running. And with our growing desire to own a home sooner rather than later, I’ve decided that I need a full-time job. Something that will help fill our bank account and my time, until my styling business is such that I can completely support myself from that alone.

Back to the job drawing board. It’s been a few years since I’ve had to look for a job, let alone interview, and most of my work outfits are San Diego “warm weather” appropriate, but all I need is one look to get me into the door. And this is it.

I hate conventional suits. They’re so formal and I have found that people who don’t wear them often, are so stiff and uncomfortable, that it shows during their actual interview. I like to make my own suit-a little less matchy, matchy but still professional, and a great representation of myself and my personality.

When creating my own “suit”, I stuck to the basics-pencil skirt and blazer are still high priority, however, I have chosen my black lace pencil skirt to give the look a little more “oomph”. I also still stayed in professional colors: black and cream. Nothing outrageous. A cream blouse and my black blazer completes the look. I let myself have fun with the shoes though and chose my new leopard heels. Note: I cannot stress this enough-if you are not comfortable nor know how to walk in heels, DO NOT WEAR THEM. It will show. Trust me. Stick to a kitten heel or a wedge. Something that will still give you a professional look but won’t make you walk strangely around. People will notice. I don’t have that heel problem so I’m happy with my leopard bad boys. Not too loud but a little more personality than a plain black heel. That’s my choice. Stick with what makes you happy.

I’ve added in some fun, simple accessories and my structured bag, and I’m ready for whatever fabulous job awaits me!

Happy Monday!

Much love,

Mel

I know that Valentine’s is normally a night where many couples love to dress up and go out. My husband and I love to do that as well-just not on Valentine’s Day. We’ve played the games of prix-fix menu’s and overcrowded restaurants and we realized that it’s just not worth it. Especially since both of us love to cook. So instead we’ve made our Valentine’s Day all about decadent meals at home, and have saved our going out occasions for other times.

This year we have planned a 5 course dinner and have invited some friends over for a game night, which means that I want to wear something comfy (to allow for 5 courses and playing card games) but also stylish. So Valentine’s Day you can find me in shades of black, cream, and red. Since we will be indoors, I’ll probably wear my heeled booties, in lieu of the black knee high boots but this outfit either way will be perfect for our decadent night indoors. Game on!

Much love,

Mel

Winter, as you can see, is alive and well in Buffalo. I had to take my car in to the repair shop and as such, would be traveling on foot to do my errands, so layering but not being confined was key. The outfit before you has three layers underneath. Add on my trusty parka and Sorel’s and I was perfectly comfortable for my day about town.

You can also see that I’m wearing pink and gray for my visible layers. One of my favorite color pairings, next to blue and green!

Hope everyone has a good Wednesday!

Much love,

Mel

When Life Hands You Lemons….(Saturday OOTN)

When life hands you lemons, you and your hubs go out to eat and drink.

Saturday was a rough day for our little family. We had to say goodbye to the second of our two cats. In a span of a little less than 5 weeks, our little family of four has now been brought down to two. My husband and I are just heartbroken. So after spending the day crying, we decided that perhaps it may do us good to get out-just to not be surrounded for a minute by the ghosts of our two beloved cats.

So please forgive my less than estatic face, although dressing up did make me feel a little bit better. And it was quite windy-hence my coat being blown off my shoulders.

As always, thanks for reading.

Much love,

Mel
