Although I was excited to embark upon my new business of styling, the winter months have certainly made it harder for me to get everything up and running. And with our growing desire to own a home sooner rather than later, I’ve decided that I need a full-time job. Something that will help fill our bank account and my time, until my styling business is such that I can completely support myself from that alone.
Back to the job drawing board. It’s been a few years since I’ve had to look for a job, let alone interview, and most of my work outfits are San Diego “warm weather” appropriate, but all I need is one look to get me into the door. And this is it.
I hate conventional suits. They’re so formal and I have found that people who don’t wear them often, are so stiff and uncomfortable, that it shows during their actual interview. I like to make my own suit-a little less matchy, matchy but still professional, and a great representation of myself and my personality.
When creating my own “suit”, I stuck to the basics-pencil skirt and blazer are still high priority, however, I have chosen my black lace pencil skirt to give the look a little more “oomph”. I also still stayed in professional colors: black and cream. Nothing outrageous. A cream blouse and my black blazer completes the look. I let myself have fun with the shoes though and chose my new leopard heels. Note: I cannot stress this enough-if you are not comfortable nor know how to walk in heels, DO NOT WEAR THEM. It will show. Trust me. Stick to a kitten heel or a wedge. Something that will still give you a professional look but won’t make you walk strangely around. People will notice. I don’t have that heel problem so I’m happy with my leopard bad boys. Not too loud but a little more personality than a plain black heel. That’s my choice. Stick with what makes you happy.
I’ve added in some fun, simple accessories and my structured bag, and I’m ready for whatever fabulous job awaits me!
Happy Monday!
Much love,
Mel
