Greetings friends!
For this post, I dared to be different. I decided to expand my focus from just me, and include two of my closest gal pals for the second part of my two-part “Holiday Hoopla” series. My husband and I had our annual wine tasting/holiday party coming up and I demanded asked my friends if they would let me style them for the party. Nothing fancy. I just wanted to be able to not only focus on three different looks for the event (without me being the crazy person with multiple clothing changes and confusing my guests) but also different body types.
So for the past few weeks, with the party being this past Saturday night, my friends have been hopefully willing participants in my reindeer dressing games so that I could ultimately feature them on my blog. And because they had to wear clothes to the party anyway, I just helped them make informed decisions. 🙂
My first featured friend, Vanessa, was pretty simple. She likes shiny things, loves wearing heels, and is on the taller side. Jerk. We had her done pretty quickly because her outfit was based on a pair of heels from H&M that I fell in love with and knew she wouldn’t hesitate to add them to her already quite large shoe collection. So I lovingly sent her an email that said something to the effect, “You need these shoes. Plan to wear for the wine party”. As expected, she DID love the shoes and ordered them right away (w/a 20% coupon-yay!) and we then got started on how to pair them. We decided to make the outfit more low key to allow for the shoes to be the star of the show. We went back and forth with sending each other various links and Target actually became our one-stop shop as we found a pair of black coated jeans and a fun, pinkish-beige blouse to pair that would be perfect for the party. Throw in her Target REDcard for 5% off and free shipping, and we had ourselves her entire party outfit for less than $100! Here is the result, with a little close up of the shoes because they really are awesome!

My other friend, Amy, presented more of a challenge. She’s now currently about 6.5 months pregnant with her second baby, but even she wasn’t sure how her body would be or how she would feel when we started planning so we decided that we would definitely do a dress, but leave the style a little more open. And of course, since this would be a maternity dress, we didn’t want her to spend a ridiculous amount on something she would only be wearing once. The great hunt began and she did end up ordering 6 dresses so that we could see in person what worked and what didn’t (ordering online being more convenient since she does have a two-year old to run after). She also had been in the market for a new pair of booties so she ended up with the same black Target booties that I own (and have now mentioned a ridiculous amount of times) and we knew those would be the shoes of the evening. The dress that looked best is actually from Kohls and is super cute. The lace on top is great for some added detail. Throw in her black tights, the booties, some gold accents, and she looked pretty and party ready!

Yours truly had her outfit planned for a long time. There was a momentary game changer but alas it didn’t work out and since I’m still a little bitter that I ordered a dress that I already owned but in another color and didn’t fit, despite being the same size, I won’t even mention it. 😉 ANYWAY, after my snafu I went back to the original plan. I had bought a faux leather skirt (no longer available but similar here) from H&M this summer and thought it would be a perfect party item, along with a red chiffon top from Zara. As the top was a little see through, I also opted for a black/white cardigan to go over (H&M-no longer available but similar here). Here I am in my second holiday party outfit,

And here we are together in our party finest. Hope you like the outfits as much as we liked wearing them!

Much love,
Mel
