During the holiday season, more often than not, most of the events we go to tend to be on the lower key side, rather than something more formal. And it also can be cold. So I’ve worked to combine both warmth and comfort with holiday sparkle.

This outift has quickly become one of my favorites because it meets all the criteria. A simple sweater and jeans but wait! There’s more! A chiffon pleated back on the sweater and glam elements-like these pointed toe sparkly flats from Sole Society and my blingy necklace. Talk about a kicked up casual outfit and perfect for any lower key holiday events. Add in a cute snakeskin bag and the only thing missing is the spiked eggnog…mmmm eggnog. ‘Tis the season!

Much love,

Mel

Happy Wednesday!

I hope that your day is faring better than mine-stuck in bed with the flu. On the plus side, I can catch up with the huge stack of magazines by my bed, in between my power naps, but this was the absolute worst week for me to get ill, so I’m allowing one day to stay in bed and do nothing, and then it’s time to rally.

So here I am last weekend-basking in the warmth of the sun. I swear to God, I will never take the warm weather for granted again! The outfit is simplistic enough-and a great excuse to wear my leopard heels, but I really love my jewelry. It’s part of the Rebel collection for Stella & Dot. This is perfect for people who don’t feel like statement necklaces or rings are really them, but still want their accessories to be noticeable.

Have a wonderful Wednesday, friends! Time for a nyquil-induced nap over here. Don’t be jealous. 😉

Much love,

Mel

I know that Valentine’s is normally a night where many couples love to dress up and go out. My husband and I love to do that as well-just not on Valentine’s Day. We’ve played the games of prix-fix menu’s and overcrowded restaurants and we realized that it’s just not worth it. Especially since both of us love to cook. So instead we’ve made our Valentine’s Day all about decadent meals at home, and have saved our going out occasions for other times.

This year we have planned a 5 course dinner and have invited some friends over for a game night, which means that I want to wear something comfy (to allow for 5 courses and playing card games) but also stylish. So Valentine’s Day you can find me in shades of black, cream, and red. Since we will be indoors, I’ll probably wear my heeled booties, in lieu of the black knee high boots but this outfit either way will be perfect for our decadent night indoors. Game on!

Much love,

Mel

On Impulse

I saw this sweater at one of our local boutiques and although I don’t normally advocate impulse buys, this sweater just looked so warm and comfy, I knew I had to at least try it on. And I was right-it is warm and cozy, and since I am currently sick, it is exactly what I want to be wearing.

I should mention that although this was definitely an impulse buy, I still ran my mental checklist of “is it worth the buy?”. A crucial question-no matter what the purchase, and one every shopper has to consider. If I didn’t think it would be a good addition to my closet, I would have stepped away-for instance, I recently had to say no to a sweater at Anthropologie that I loved but the price tag for what it was and for the versatality in my closet, wouldn’t have been a smart purchase on my end. There are just some rules you always have to abide by and this is one of them.

Thankfully this sweater did make the cut and both me and my closet are happier for it.

Much love,

Mel

Birthday Night (Wednesday’s OOTN)

Yesterday was the hubs’s birthday so he decided that he wanted to venture out of our normal zone and try a new tap room in the surrounding suburbs for his celebration. I think we were both a little worried that it would be a hard day for him, not being around the friends and family he’s used to for his birthday, but our friends here-both old and new, met up with us and it was a great night, filled with laughs and good conversations.

I’m still having an adjustment period for going out in Buffalo. My first instinct is always heels or flats, for more casual outings. However, it’s too cold and too much ice on the ground to get away with either. So I’ve really upped my bootie game this season and am playing around with my outfits. This is my outfit from last night-in all honesty I should have been wearing a sweater instead of a blouse, but I haven’t worn this blouse enough since I got it so I decided to brave the elements. Of course I had a coat on top of this but that 21 degrees was not playing around. It worked out and my husband and I both were happy with the result, and that’s all that matters.

Happy Thursday!

Much love,

Mel

Although I do love to dress up for nights out, there are times were I just feel like being more comfortable but still look like I’m ready to go out. This outfit is a great example of how I manage to do both! A beautiful, warm cashmere sweater with black jeans and booties keep me comfortable but stylish. I then add in fun accessories-like this necklace and perhaps a mini quilted bag, and a great outerwear topper.

This coat was actually my mom’s so it holds a lot of sentiment for me, but it’s also luxe with the fabric and the button details. I found it to be a perfect topper for my outfit.

Dressed up comfort. Doesn’t get any better than that.

Happy Monday!

Much love,

Mel

One of the perks of moving to New York State is that we are really not that far away from New York City. It’s a six hour drive from where we live currently, but if you have ever lived in California, you know that six hours really isn’t that bad. And of course if you’ve driven cross country numerous times, as in the case of my husband and I, six hours is nothing.

My husband’s aunt and cousin were visiting the city from California and so off we went to spend time with them while we were once again in the same state. It’s been a while since I’ve seen the City at Christmas time, and my husband has never had the pleasure so it was a great weekend bumming around NYC.

Here I am at Highline Park-an old elevated rail line that is now a park that runs a considerable distance on the West Side. It was absolutely beautiful, if not very chilly since it was close to the water. Layers were an absolute must!

Much love,

Mel
